Free Men’s Hoops Red-White Scrimmage Set for Saturday

Fans invited to attend event in Fertitta Center; Holman Street doors open at 11 a.m., Saturday
HOUSTON – University of Houston Men's Basketball fans can catch their first glimpse of the Cougars beginning at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, during the team's Red-White Scrimmage inside the Fertitta Center.
The event is free and open to the public, and all are invited to attend. The Red-White Scrimmage will begin shortly after three-time American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year Kelvin Sampson and his staff complete their annual Coaches' Clinic.
The Holman Street doors of the Fertitta Center will open at 11 a.m., Saturday. Pay parking will be available in the Visitors' entrance of the Stadium Garage off Holman Street or on the street. No free parking will be available.
ABOUT THE COUGARS
Under Sampson's leadership, Houston been ranked among the nation's Top Five in multiple preseason rankings by media organizations, including the No. 1 spot by the editors and writers of The Almanac.
Leading the way is senior guard Marcus Sasser, who energized Houston Basketball fans with his decision in June to withdraw from the NBA Draft and return to the Cougars for his senior season.
The Dallas native was leading the Cougars with 17.7 points per game through 12 games before being sidelined for the remainder of the 2021-22 season following foot surgery.
Sasser has been named to multiple Preseason All-America Teams, including First-Team selections by The Almanac, Blue Ribbon College Yearbook and Dick Vitale.
Three starters and seven lettermen return from the Cougars' 2021-22 team, which posted a 32-6 overall record, advanced to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight, swept the American Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament titles and finished among the nation's Top 10 for the second straight season.
The Cougars have posted seven consecutive 20-win seasons, including a pair of 30-win campaigns, and competed in each of the last four NCAA Tournaments to tie a school record.
UP NEXT
The Cougars open their 2022-23 schedule when they play host to Northern Colorado on Nov. 7 inside the Fertitta Center. It will be the first of 18 regular-season home games inside the Fertitta Center.
From there, the Cougars hit the road for the first time to take on Saint Joseph's at 5 p.m. (CT), Nov. 11, in Annapolis, Md., as part of the Veterans Classic on the U.S. Naval Academy campus.

For the third straight season, the Cougars sold out of their season tickets for home games inside the Fertitta Center.
Fans will have the opportunity to purchase a limited number of single-game tickets for the Cougars' 18 regular-season home games inside the Fertitta Center beginning Monday, Oct. 24.
