Fans encouraged to donate to give the power of reading to children in Houston
HOUSTON – For the fifth consecutive season, University of Houston Men's Basketball Head Coach Kelvin Sampson and the Cougars will host a #Fight4Literacy game presented by International Paper when they take on Wichita State at 11 a.m., Saturday inside the Fertitta Center.
By wearing green lapel pins and wristbands – in support of the #Fight4Literacy in Houston – Sampson and his staff are promoting childhood reading and the local literacy work of Literacy Now.

All funds generated at the game will stay in Houston through a grant partnership with Literacy Now. Since 2013, Coaching for Literacy has granted more than $730,000 to local literacy partners to fund initiatives like mentoring, after-school programs and providing age-appropriate books for children.
As the presenting partner of the #Fight4Literacy, International Paper has guaranteed a minimum donation of $10,000. The company will also match local donations up to $5,000. Last year, the Houston #Fight4Literacy game raised $15,725 for local literacy efforts.
A final fundraising total will be announced at the end of the season, when grants will be delivered to Coaching for Literacy's local partners.
"#Fight4Literacy presented by International Paper is truly a movement," said Carleen O'Reilly, executive director of Coaching for Literacy. "We know how crucial it is for young kids to learn to read, and active, committed partners like Houston and Literacy Now are an important piece of that puzzle. But anyone can fight for literacy, and this partnership really helps bring the issue front and center in the Houston community and among Houston basketball fans. We hope it creates a long-term impact."

YOU CAN GIVE the POWER of LITERACY to LOCAL STUDENTS
Fans can help raise funds to improve literacy in the Houston area by supporting participating businesses. On Saturday, Nekter Juice Bar will raise awareness about the issue of illiteracy and donate a portion of their sales to Literacy Now. All fans have to do is mention Houston's #Fight4Literacy Game at checkout.
