After bye week, Houston drops Sunday contest to South Florida
HOUSTON – The women's basketball team lost a defensive battle to the University of South Florida 55-35 on Sunday afternoon in the Fertitta Center.
Laila Blair connected on eight points to go with two rebounds and two assists. Tatyana Hill recorded four blocks and Tamara Nard also added three stops.
First Quarter
The first quarter was a defensive battle between the two teams. Nard scored the first basket and the Cougars held USF to only one basket in the first six minutes of the game. But, South Florida stormed ahead closing the quarter 9-7.
Second Quarter
USF and Houston battled through the second quarter. Four-straight points from Julie Blackshell-Fair brought the game within four points at 15-11, however, the Bulls took a 23-16 lead going into halftime.
Third Quarter
In the third quarter, USF found its scoring rhythm taking a double-digit lead. A 15-2 run put Houston down by 22 with the score at 42-20. Four free throws from the Bulls closed the quarter at 46-22.
Fourth Quarter
Throughout the fourth quarter, USF maintained its double-digit lead and ultimately took the win 55-35.

The Cougars gear up for two road games, first against Tulsa on Wednesday, Feb. 2 in Oklahoma.
