Incoming freshman forward becomes fifth McDonald’s All-American to compete for Cougars and first to sign with Houston since 2000
HOUSTON – University of Houston Men's Basketball signee and IMG Academy star Jarace Walker added to his trophy case on Tuesday afternoon when he was named a McDonald's All-American.
Measuring 6-foot-8 and 220 pounds, Walker will compete as a freshman beginning in 2022-23 and have four years of eligibility remaining. He is listed as a 5-star recruit by ESPN, 247Sports and Rivals and is ranked as the No. 1 power forward by ESPN and 247Sports.
At No. 9 nationally by ESPN100 and 247Sports, Walker will be the Cougars' first five-star signing since 2012.
He will compete in the McDonald's All-American Game inside Wintrust Arena in Chicago. That prestigious event will air on ESPN, beginning at 8 p.m. (CST) March 29.
Walker will become the fifth McDonald's All-American to compete for the Cougars but only the third to sign with Houston, joining Alton Ford (2000) and Rickie Winslow (1983). Quentin Grimes (2018) and Devonta Pollard (2012) also were McDonald's All-Americans during their high school careers but signed with Kansas and Alabama, respectively, before transferring to Houston.

A native of New Freedom, Pa., Walker has competed for the last four seasons at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., for Head Coach Sean McAloon. As a freshman during the 2018-19 season, he helped lead the team to the GEICO National title.
As a senior in 2021-22, he posted 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting with seven rebounds, two blocks and a pair of steals in a win over No. 5 Monteverde Academy earlier this season.
Walker also participated in USA Basketball's 2018 Junior National Team minicamp and two 2019 minicamps.
He was one of nearly 800 student-athletes to be nominated from across the country.
