Cougars Cross Country Gears Up For Rice Invitational

Programs look to build on strong 2021 season opener
HOUSTON -- The Houston men's and women's cross country teams return to action Friday across town at the Rice Invitational from the Rice Intramural Fields. The women's race begins at 6:15 p.m., followed by the men at approximately 6:45 p.m.
Admission for Friday's meet is free. Results will be available via RiceOwls.com upon completion.
The Cougars will be among 12 teams competing, joining A&M-Corpus Christi, Concordia, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Louisiana, Prairie View, Rice, Sam Houston, St. Thomas, Stephen F. Austin and Texas Southern.
LAST TIME OUT
Houston's programs both finished fifth to open their campaigns from the Aggie Opener on Sept. 1.
The Cougars were led by seniors Devin Vallejo-Bannister and Maddy Castleberry. Vallejo-Bannister took home a sixth-place finish in the men's 5K, while Castleberry notched a 13th place finish in the women's 4.1K.
Vallejo-Bannister was accompanied inside of the top-30 by teammates Alan Elbanna and Brandon Seagreaves who finished in 23rd and 30th respectively.
For the women's team, Regan Lobodzinski left with a 27th place finish and Hannah Gault secured 29th to join Castleberry in the top-30.
