Women’s Basketball Announces 2021-22 Schedule

Cougars to play 14 regular-season home games with Nov. 5 exhibition inside Fertitta Center
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Women's Basketball program announced its full 2021-22 schedule with the addition of the American Athletic Conference slate, Head Coach Ron Hughey said Thursday.
The Cougars will play 14 regular-season home games with a Nov. 5 exhibition against Texas A&M-Commerce inside the beautiful Fertitta Center. That includes eight regular-season contests against league rivals.
Houston's complete schedule with game times and broadcasting networks will be announced soon.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE SCHEDULE
Houston opens league play when it takes on Tulane on Jan. 2 inside the Fertitta Center. After a road contest at Wichita State (Jan. 5), the Cougars return to Houston to meet Tulsa on Jan. 8 inside the Fertitta Center.
Following back-to-back-road games at UCF (Jan. 11) and at Temple (Jan. 15), the Cougars face Cincinnati inside the Fertitta Center on Jan. 19. Houston closes out the month at Memphis on Jan. 22 and against South Florida inside the Fertitta Center on Jan. 30.
The Cougars open the month of February with consecutive road games at Tulsa (Feb. 2) and at SMU (Feb. 6) before returning to Fertitta Center to play four of its next five games. The homestand begins against UCF (Feb. 9) and East Carolina (Feb. 16) and – following a road game at Tulane (Feb. 20) – wraps up against Temple (Feb. 23) and SMU (Feb. 26).
Houston caps its regular season when it takes on South Florida on March 2 in Tampa, Fla.
From there, the Cougars take their first steps in the postseason when they compete at the American Athletic Conference Championship on March 7-10 inside Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.


NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE
The Cougars begin the 2021-22 campaign when they meet Texas A&M-Commerce in an exhibition contest on Nov. 5 and then start their regular season when they take on Howard on Nov. 9, both inside the Fertitta Center.
After a pair of road contests inside the Lone Star State at Stephen F. Austin (Nov. 12) and at UT Arlington (Nov. 17), the Cougars return to Houston to meet New Mexico inside the Fertitta Center on Nov. 20.
Houston then heads to Mexico to compete at the Cancun Challenge on Nov. 25-27. The Cougars open that event on Nov. 25 against Arizona State before facing Fordham (Nov. 26) and Baylor (Nov. 27) with 12:30 p.m. (CST) game times for each date.
The Cougars open the month of December on the road at Alabama on Dec. 3 and close out the month with four of their next five games inside the Fertitta Center. The homestand begins against Jacksonville State (Dec. 9) and Louisiana (Dec. 12).
Following a road contest at Florida State on Dec. 16, Houston closes out the year 2021 with home games against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Dec. 21) and Southeastern Louisiana (Dec. 29), both inside the Fertitta Center.
From there, the Cougars will take their first steps in the postseason during the American Athletic Conference Championship, set for March 7-10 inside Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
ABOUT the COUGARS
Four starters and seven letterwinners return for the Cougars, who posted a 17-8 record, finished third in the American Athletic Conference with a 12-5 mark and advanced to the WNIT First Round in 2020-21. It was the program's third straight postseason appearance.
Sophomore guard Laila Blair returns in 2021-22 after an award-winning freshman season. The Houston native led the Cougars with 10.5 points per game on the way to being named to the American Athletic Conference All-Freshman Team.
Tatyana Hill led the Cougars with 6.2 rebounds per contest, while Dymond Gladney paced the team with 3.2 assists per game.
