Cougars start slate with Nov. 6 exhibition vs. Montana Tech; Meet Hofstra in regular-season opener on Nov. 9
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Men's Basketball program revealed its complete 2021-22 schedule with the addition of the team's American Athletic Conference schedule, Head Coach Kelvin Sampson announced Thursday.
Houston will play host to 17 regular-season games, including a Nov. 6 exhibition against Montana Tech, inside the Fertitta Center, with nine American Athletic Conference contests.
Seven lettermen and two starters return from last season's squad which posted a 28-4 record, advanced to the sixth NCAA Tournament Final Four in school history and captured the American Athletic Conference Tournament championship.
In 2020-21, the Cougars posted a perfect 15-0 home record inside the Fertitta Center and have won their last 25 home games. That ranks as the fourth longest home winning streak in the nation, entering the 2021-22 campaign.
2021-22 AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE SCHEDULE
Houston opens American Athletic Conference play when it faces Cincinnati on Dec. 28 inside the Fertitta Center. From there, the Cougars hit the road to face Temple (Jan. 2) and South Florida (Jan. 5).
The Cougars return to the Fertitta Center to play host to Wichita State on Jan. 8. That game will be part of a doubleheader with Houston Women's Basketball, which faces Tulsa in the Fertitta Center.
Following a road game at Tulsa (Jan. 15), the Cougars meet South Florida (Jan. 18) and East Carolina (Jan. 22), both inside the Fertitta Center. Houston closes the month at UCF on Jan. 29.
The Cougars open the month of February on Feb. 2 inside the Fertitta Center and then meet Cincinnati (Feb. 6) and SMU (Feb. 9) in road games. Houston takes on Memphis (Feb. 12) and UCF (Feb. 17) inside the Fertitta Center before facing Wichita State (Feb. 20) and Tulane (Feb. 23) on the road.
The Cougars wrap up February with a Feb. 27 home game against SMU inside the Fertitta Center.
Houston celebrates Senior Night when it takes on Temple on March 3 inside the Fertitta Center and closes the regular season when it meets Memphis on the road on March 6.

2021-22 NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE
The Cougars revealed their non-conference schedule in August. The season begins with a Nov. 6 exhibition against Montana Tech, where Coach Kelvin Sampson began his award-winning head coaching career during the1981-82 season.
From there, the home schedule continues against Hofstra (Nov. 9) in the Cougars' regular-season opener. It will be the first meeting against the Pride in school history.
The Cougars then take on crosstown-rival Rice (Nov. 12) before facing Virginia (Nov. 16). The game against the Cavaliers features two of the nation's Top-Three winningest teams since 2017-18 with the Cougars (111) and Virginia (107) trailing only Gonzaga (127).
Houston then competes at the Maui Jim Maui Invitational on Nov. 22-24 inside the Lahaina Civic Center in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii. The Cougars open that prestigious tournament against Butler on Nov. 22 and will face the winner-loser of Texas A&M-Wisconsin on Nov. 23 before closing out the event on Nov. 24.
The Cougars close out the month against Northwestern State on Nov. 30 inside the Fertitta Center.
Houston opens the month of December against Bryant on Dec. 3 inside Fertitta Center in the first meeting between the schools with a Dec. 6 showdown following against Alcorn State.
After a Dec. 11 road contest at Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala., the Cougars meet Oklahoma State on Dec. 18 inside Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, in the Hoop Hype XL | College Basketball Showcase. Houston then closes out its non-conference slate when it plays host to Texas State on Dec. 22 inside the Fertitta Center.
