Cougars Head to Lake Charles

Lake Charles Toyota Cowboy Stampede set for Saturday
LAKE CHARLES, La. – Houston Cross Country returns to the course Saturday morning with the running of the annual Lake Charles Toyota Cowboy Stampede from the Enos Derbonne Sports Complex. The women's 5k is set for 8:30 a.m. followed by the men's 4-mile at 9 a.m.
On the women's side, Houston, ranked No. 12 in the latest USTFCCCA South Central Regional poll, will be joined by host McNeese, Mississippi College, Xavier (La.), Houston Baptist, Northwestern State, Grambling, Lamar, Texas Southern and Wiley College (La.).
Nine teams are entered on the men's side, including the host Cowboys who are No. 9 in the region. The Cougars are also joined by Lamar, Mississippi College, Grambling, Xavier (La.), Houston Baptist, Northwestern State and Wiley College.
Houston's women are led by Darby Gauntt, who was named American Female Athlete of the Week on Monday following a strong performance at the Rice Invitational. Gauntt ran a 13:55.00 in the 4,000 meters, taking second among 83 competitors last time out.
In the men's 6,000 meters, Brandon Seagreaves paced action for the Cougars, finishing 13th at 19:38.40 at Rice. Teammate Devin Vallejo-Bannister registered his second top-20 finisher of the season at Rice, taking 16th at 19:44.10.
