Cougars Capture Cowboy Stampede Title

Houston notches 40 points, four Top-10 finishers
LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Houston women's cross country program tallied 40 points and took the top spot at the Lake Charles Toyota Cowboy Stampede from the Enos Derbonne Sports Complex on Saturday morning.
Four Houston student-athletes finished in the Top 10 including reigning American Athletic Conference Women's Athlete of the Week Darby Gauntt who placed third in the 5k with a time of 17:28.2.
Gauntt was joined by Maddy Castleberry who placed sixth (17:43.2), Erin Rivera in ninth (18:14.3) and Claire Meyer (18:15.6) in 10th. Eight Cougars finished in the Top 20, helping Houston best second-place McNeese (50) by 10 points.
The Houston men took fourth place highlighted by another strong performance from Brandon Seagreaves who placed third with a mark of 19:07.6 in the 4-mile. He was joined in the Top 25 by Alan Elbanna (12th place, 20:04.2).
Houston closes its schedule with the Arturo Barrios Invitational at Texas A&M on Saturday, Oct. 16, before the American Athletic Conference Championships in Lakeland, Florida, on Friday, Oct. 29.
