Houston Tees Off at Schooner Fall Classic

Two-day, 54-hole event runs through Monday at Belmar Golf Club
NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Houston Women's Golf program returns to action this weekend as it tees off at the Schooner Fall Classic at Belmar Golf Club.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament begins with a 9 a.m., Sunday, shotgun start with 36 holes and wraps up with the final 18 holes Monday on the 6,190-yard, par-70 course.
This will be the Cougars' second fall tournament after competing at the season-opening Sam Golden Invitational at Wildhorse Golf Club at Robson Ranch in Denton, Texas, on Sept. 13-14.

THE LINEUP
Under first-year Head Coach Lydia Gumm's leadership, the Cougars will be represented by junior All-American Karen Fredgaard, senior Ariana Saenz, senior Maria Jose Martinez, junior Annie Kim and sophomore Delaney Martin. Sophomore Nicole Abelar will compete as an individual in her Houston debut.
Fredgaard led the Cougars in the team's most recent action, tying for 15th at 6-under 210. The Asserbo, Denmark, native opened that tournament with a 72 and followed with a 68 in the Second Round on the way to the 10th Top-20 finish in 13 tournaments in her collegiate career.
A year ago, Fredgaard enjoyed of the best individual seasons in program history. Following the season in which the Cougars received their seventh straight NCAA Regional bid, Fredgaard was named to the All-America First Team by the Women's Golf Coaches Association and Golfweek, a first in program history.
Saenz opened the Sam Golden Invitational with back-to-back 72 and tied for 46th at 220, while Kim and Martin each fired 71s in the Final Round of that event.
THE FIELD
The Cougars will compete against Baylor, Florida State, Illinois, Iowa State, Kansas State, North Texas, Oklahoma State, SMU, Texas A&M, TCU, Texas State, Tulsa, UTSA and host Oklahoma.
TEE TIMES
For Sunday's First Round, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Iowa State and Baylor.
Martin will start the day for the Cougars in the second group off No. 7 at 9 a.m., with Kim (No. 6), Martinez (Martinez), Saenz (first group off No. 4) and Fredgaard (second group off No. 1) following. Abelar begins her First Round in the second group off No. 18.

UP NEXT
Following the Schooner Fall Classic, the Cougars will tee off at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 4-6 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark. The Cougars will join with their UH male counterparts at that event, which will air on GOLF Channel each day.
From there, Houston closes out its fall schedule when it competes at the Jim West Challenge on Oct. 17-18 at Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos, Texas.
