NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Houston Women's Golf program stood in a tie for 12th following the first 36 holes of the Schooner Fall Classic at Belmar Golf Club on Sunday evening.
As a team, the Cougars posted a score of 296 in the morning session and with a total of 291 in the afternoon round for a 36-hole score of 587 on the 6,112-yard, par-70 course.
Sophomore Delaney Martin and senior Maria Jose Martinez were tied for 24th at 144 to lead the Cougars with each shooting 70 on the first day.
Senior Ariana Saenz was tied for 44th at 147, while junior Annie Kim was tied for 64th at 152. Sophomore Nicole Abelar stood in 79th at 162,
Oklahoma State held the first-day lead at 549 to stand 18 strokes ahead of Illinois. Florida State (568), Texas A&M (568), Baylor (571), TCU (573), Texas State (574), Oklahoma (577), Iowa State (580) and UTSA (583) rounded out the Top-10 leaders.
Oklahoma's State's Caley McGinty held the first-day lead at 6-under 67 after shooting back-to-back 67s Sunday. Kornkamol Sukaree (Illinois) and Taglao Jeeravivitaporn (Iowa State) was tied for second at 138.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament wraps up with the final 18 holes beginning at 8:30 a.m., Monday.
This is the Cougars' second fall tournament after competing at the season-opening Sam Golden Invitational at Wildhorse Golf Club at Robson Ranch in Denton, Texas, on Sept. 13-14.

TEE TIMES
For Monday's Final Round, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Kansas State and SMU, beginning off No. 10.
Abelar will start the day for the Cougars at 8:30 a.m., with Kim (8:40 a.m.), Saenz (8:50 a.m.), Martin (9 a.m.) and Martinez (9:10 a.m.).

UP NEXT
Following the Schooner Fall Classic, the Cougars will tee off at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 4-6 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark. The Cougars will join with their UH male counterparts at that event, which will air on GOLF Channel each day.
From there, Houston closes out its fall schedule when it competes at the Jim West Challenge on Oct. 17-18 at Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos, Texas.
