DENTON, Texas – University of Houston junior All-American Karen Fredgaard posted her third straight sub-par round to tie for 15th with a score of 6-under 210 in the Final Round of the Sam Golden Invitational at Wildhorse Golf Club at Robson Ranch on Tuesday.
Fredgaard, who is the defending American Athletic Conference Player of the Year, fired a 2-under 70 on the 6,288-yard, par-72 course for the 10th Top-20 showing of her outstanding career.
Starting her day off No. 11, Fredgaard began the final 18 holes with a pair of pairs before running into trouble with two bogeys over her next four holes. Fortunately, those would be the final bogeys of the day for her.
She quickly regained a stroke with a birdie on the par-5 17th hole and, following seven straight pars, closed the tournament with birdies on three of her final four holes to tie for 15th.
Junior Annie Kim and sophomore Delaney Martin joined Fredgaard in red numbers Tuesday with 71s. Kim started her day off No. 13 with a birdie and added two birdies in a 3-hole stretch on Nos. 1-3. Despite a bogey on No. 6, she rallied with her final birdie of the tournament No. 8 and tied for 51st at 221.
Martin began Tuesday's play off No. 14 and moved under par with a birdie on the 492-yard, par-5 17th hole. After a bogey on No. 1 returned her to even par, the Boerne, Texas, native returned to red numbers with a birdie on No. 4 and overcame back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 6-7 with another birdie on No. 8 to return to even par.
Martin drained her final birdie of the day on No. 10 and tied for 60th at 224.
COVID senior Ariana Saenz tied for 46th at 220, while senior Maria Jose Martinez joined Martin in a tie for 51st 221.
As a team, the Cougars posted a score of 3-under 285 for their low round of the tournament and moved into 10th at 867.
Oklahoma State captured the team title at 828 to finish 13 shots ahead of Texas Tech. TCU (843), Texas A&M (844), Oklahoma (847), Tulsa (852), Mississippi State (853), Purdue (855) and UTSA (863) rounded out the Top Nine.
Texas A&M's Blanca Fernandez Garcia-Pogg captured the individual title at 202. Mississippi State's Julia Lopez Ramirez tied with Garcia-Pogg at 14-under but finished secondbased on total score on No 18 in the tournament.
