
Cougars Earn Strong Results at Aggie Opener

Vallejo-Bannister, Castleberry pace Cougars
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Houston men's and women's cross country teams picked up a pair of fifth-place finishes, highlighted by a sixth-place result from Devin Vallejo-Bannister and 13th-place finish from Maddy Castleberry on Wednesday evening at the Aggie Opener from the Dale Watts Cross Country Course.
Vallejo-Bannister captured sixth among 67 competitors, posting a time of 15:52.0 in the 5k. Castleberry paced the Cougars in the 4.1k at 14.59.7, taking 13th among 64 participants.
The senior duo bested participants from Texas A&M, SMU, Baylor, Abilene Christian, TCU, Saint Thomas and Prairie View. Houston's women totaled 126 points while the men tallied 115 points. Host Texas A&M took home both team titles.
Houston's women notched three top-30 finishes with Regan Lobodzinski taking 27th (15:25.9) and Hannah Gault securing 27th (15:33.2) to join Castleberry. Victoria Ruiz placed 32nd (15.40.7), followed by Daniela Castillo in 39th (15.52.3), Erin Rivera in 41st (15.54.1), Sondos Moursy in 42nd (16.12.4) and Eleni Kaiser in 43rd (16.24.8).
On the men's side, Alan Elbanna (16:32.2) earned 23rd while Brandon Seagreaves (16:52.7) took 30th. Elsewhere, Tyler Keranen (17:28.8) secured 45th and Carlos Castillo (17:42.0) placed 51st followed by Thomas Crider (17:48.9) in 54th, Trey Grant (18:03.9) in 57th and Christian Gilmore (19.24.5) in 61st.
