Martin Tees off in US Women’s Amateur on Monday

Sophomore will become seventh Cougar to compete in nation’s premier collegiate event
RYE, N.Y. – University of Houston sophomore Delaney Martin will compete in the nation's premier amateur event when she tees off in the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship on the West Course at Westchester Country Club on Monday.
Martin earned her place at the U.S. Women's Amateur after shooting a 2-under 68 in a qualifier at Westfield Center in Westfield, Ohio, in mid-July.
Martin will become the seventh Cougar to compete at the U.S. Women's Amateur and the first since current teammate Karen Fredgaard played at the 2020 tournament at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Md. She joined Emily Gilbreth (2018), Maddy Rayner (2018), Megan Thothong (2016, 2015), Raegan Bremer (2016, 2014) and Assistant Coach Lucy Nunn (2015).
Following 36 holes over two days of stroke plays, the top-64 individuals will advance to match play starting Wednesday.

Martin begins First Round play on the 6,488-yard, par-72 layout at 11:11 a.m. (CDT), Monday off No. 10. For Tuesday's Second Round, she starts her day off No. 1 at 6:11 a.m. (CDT).
She will compete in a group with Linda Wang and Audrey Tan in each of the first two rounds of stroke play.

ABOUT DELANEY MARTIN
As a freshman in 2020-21, Martin posted a 74.07 average with four rounds of par or better. The Boerne, Texas, native opened her collegiate career with a seventh-place finish at the Texas State Invitational and tied for fifth at The Bruzzy, thanks to a Final-Round 67.
For her impressive work all season, she was named to the All-American Athletic Conference Team. Martin also proved to be an exemplary student in the classroom, earning a place on the league's All-Academic Team.
