DeJon Jarreau to Sign with Miami Heat

HOUSTON – University of Houston guard DeJon Jarreau will sign a free-agent contract with the NBA's Miami Heat and compete on the team's Summer League squad on Aug. 8-17 in Las Vegas.

Jarreau became the second Cougar to sign with an NBA team after teammate and All-American guard Quentin Grimes was taken by the New York Knicks with the No. 25 pick in the First Round.

ABOUT DeJON JARREAU
Jarreau was a steady leader for the Cougars in the starting lineup throughout the 2020-21 season. He was recognized as The American's Defensive Player of the Year and was a Second-Team honoree.

The New Orleans native ranked among The American's Top-20 scoring leaders with 10.6 points per contest and made his impact on the defensive side.

Jarreau stood among the league's Top-15 leaders with 5.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game. In the Cougars' home win over Boise State on Nov. 27, he held Derrick Alston, who averaged 17.0 points per game, scoreless.

He etched his name into Houston history after posting 15 points with 10 rebounds and 10 assists in the Cougars' Quarterfinal win over Tulane in the American Athletic Conference Championship. He became only the seventh player in Houston history to record a triple-double and the first since Bo Outlaw during the 1992-93 season.

Jarreau finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds in the Cougars' home win against Wichita State for the first double-double of his career on Jan. 6 and posted 10 games with multiple steals.

Jarreau earned his second conference postseason honor after being named the 2019 American Athletic Conference Sixth Man of the Year.

He became the second Cougar to be named a Conference Defensive Player of the Year and the first since Bo Outlaw earned back-to-back honors from the Southwest Conference in 1992-93.
