Will become head coach at Texas A&M
HOUSTON – Gerrod Chadwell, who worked for the last eight seasons as the Carolyn Macow Leatherwood Head Women's Golf Coach at the University of Houston, was named head coach at Texas A&M on Tuesday.
Chadwell joined the Cougars in 2013 as the first coach in program history. During his time, he led the Cougars to three American Athletic Conference Championships titles, including back-to-back crowns in 2018 and 2019, and was named the league's Coach of the Year in 2016, 2018 and 2019.
Beginning in 2015, Houston competed in NCAA Regional team play during each season in which the team was eligible to play. In the first year of the program in 2014, NCAA rules allowed only Cougar student-athletes to compete as individuals.
The Cougars produced three American Players of the Year with 19 All-American Athletic Conference honorees, including four in each of the last three years.
Houston also excelled in the classroom with 43 American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team members and 13 Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholars.

"When we began our Women's Golf program in 2013, Gerrod was the perfect candidate to lead our student-athletes. He developed and instilled a commitment to excellence in all facets in our team and made Houston Women's Golf one of the premier programs in the nation," Vice President for Athletics Chris Pezman said. "We are grateful for his dedication to Houston Athletics for the last seven years and wish him, Stacy and Chesnee all the best in the future."
"It was an honor and a blessing to receive the opportunity to start the University of Houston Women's Golf program and see it grow to where it is today. I want to thank all our young women, assistant coaches administrators and support staff members. It truly takes a village to get to this point," Chadwell said. "I began my own family here, so Houston will always be a special place for me. I cannot wait to watch the program continue to grow and flourish under the next coach. Once a Coog, always a Coog."
A national search for Chadwell's replacement will begin immediately
