Sorensen Shines in Opening Day of Action at Drake Relays

Cougar senior clocks third fastest 3000-meter Steeplechase in UH history
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Track & Field program got out to a fantastic start to meet action at the 111th Drake Relays behind a pair of strong performances from the UH distance squad.

Meredith Sorensen was the highlight of the evening after earning the highest finish of the night for the Cougars with an eighth-place finish in the 3000-meter Steeplechase. Soreensen knocked more than 10 second off her previous personal-best in the event to clock a time of 10:40.34, which is the third-fastest in program history. The Cougar miler now holds both the third and fifth-best performances in the event in UH history.
On the men's side. Devin Vallejo-Bannister competed for the Cougars in the Unseeded 1500-meter race, earning a 10th-place finish in the event at 3:52.85.
Houston will return to action tomorrow afternoon in Des Moines.
HOUSTON ATTENDANCE POLICY
Limited tickets for Houston Track & Field will now be sold on a single-game, general admission basis while supplies last. Fans are encouraged to act quickly and purchase advanced single-game tickets prior to their arrival on campus due to limited availability.
All facilities and related spring sporting events will operate at 25 percent capacity of available seating throughout the remainder of the 2021 season.
For fans wishing to attend any of these home events this spring, an exclusive pre-sale ticket offer will be made available to existing season ticket holders and donors prior to the general public on-sale which begins on Monday, March 15 at 9 a.m. CT.
Fans are encouraged to visit UHCougars.com/tickets to purchase available single-game tickets while supplies last.
