Houston Takes Home Three Titles on Second Day of Drake Relays

Houston secures first relay title of the weekend in the 4x200
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Track & Field program secured a trio of Drake Relays titles on the second day of action in Des Moines.

In the 4x200-meter Relay, Houston made it look easy taking first-place in the event to win its first relay of the weekend. Christian Hamberlin, Travis Collins, Edward Sumler IV and Shaun Maswanganyi combined for a time of 1:24.41 to win the first relay title of the weekend for UH.
Cecilia Tamayo-Garza secured a first-place finish for the Cougars in the University Women's 200-meter. Tamayo-Garza showed just why she was the favorite, clocking a wind-aided 23.94.
Nora Monie continues to be a force in the Discus Throw, shattering her own program record in the event to take first-place with a toss of 58.05m (190-5). Her toss is the sixth-best in the NCAA this season as Monie now holds all five of the best performances in the event in UH history.
The Men's Pole Vault competition was highlighted by a pair of top-five finishes for the Cougars as Christyan Sampy and Antonio Ruiz recorded the second-highest clearance in program history at 5.32m (17-5 ½). Sampy secured a second-place finish, followed by Ruiz in fourth-place and Ben Percefull in sixth-place at 5.17m (16-11 ½).
Triston Gibbons set a new personal-best in the Men's Shot Put to take fifth-place in the event with the third-best throw in program history. Gibbons recorded a toss of 18.99m (61-11 ¾) on his fourth attempt.
Benjamin Okafor earned another podium finish for UH, taking third in the long jump. Okafor earned a mark of 7.29m (23-11) on his second jump of the day.
Nu'uausala Tuilefano closed out the Shot Put in fourth-place with a series-best toss of 15.34m (50-4) on her final attempt.
UH advanced in several of the finals slated to take place tomorrow including the men's and women's 4x100-meter relay, men's and women's 100-meter and both the 100-meter and 110-meter hurdles.
Action will resume tomorrow at Drake Stadium with the first event for the Cougars set to begin at 12.45 p.m. A group of Cougars will also be competing at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight beginning at 9:30 a.m.
HOUSTON ATTENDANCE POLICY
Limited tickets for Houston Track & Field will now be sold on a single-game, general admission basis while supplies last. Fans are encouraged to act quickly and purchase advanced single-game tickets prior to their arrival on campus due to limited availability.
All facilities and related spring sporting events will operate at 25 percent capacity of available seating throughout the remainder of the 2021 season.
For fans wishing to attend any of these home events this spring, an exclusive pre-sale ticket offer will be made available to existing season ticket holders and donors prior to the general public on-sale which begins on Monday, March 15 at 9 a.m. CT.
