Cougars swept by highly-ranked Longhorns

AUSTIN, Texas – The Houston tennis team fell to No. 2 Texas 4-0 on Friday afternoon at the Texas Tennis Center.

Friday's match began with the Longhorns (18-1, 5-0 Big 12) claiming the doubles point over Houston (12-5, 3-1 AAC). The pairs of Phonexay Chitdara/Sophie Gerits and Azul Pedemonti/Blanca Cortijo Parreno both fell to their in-state foes. Of the team's five losses this season, four have come to Big 12 or SEC opponents.

While the duos on courts two and three dropped their sets, Mimi Kendall-Woseley and Laura Slisane were tied with their foes, ranked 71 in the nation, at the time Texas won the doubles point.

Houston's struggles continued in singles play as the home team swept its way to victory. Kendall-Woseley lost to a top-20 opponent while Slisane and Pedemonti also dropped their bouts.

Chitdara, Gerits, and Cortijo Parreno had their matches conclude unfinished. Cortijo Parreno was the only Cougar on pace to defeat a Longhorn after she won the first set 6-4.
