Houston Signs Guard Taze Moore
4/16/2021 7:19:00 PM | Men's Basketball
Will join Cougars after playing at Cal State Bakersfield

Moore, who measures 6-foot-4 and weighs 185 pounds, competed for his first five seasons at Cal State Bakersfield before transferring to Houston. He will have one year of eligibility with the Cougars with the start of the 2021-22 season.
"Taze is another player who comes from a well coached program. The thing that really attracted us to Taze was his athleticism. He is an elite athlete," Sampson said. "He can put it on the floor, he can slash, and he can pass. He is another player who can impact winning."
Moore, whose first name is pronounced Tah-Zhay, was an All-Big West Conference selection as a senior in 2020-21 after leading the team in scoring (12.2 ppg), free throw percentage (82.8) and steals (30).
He ranked among the Roadrunners' Top 3 in rebounding (4.0), assists (63) and blocks (14) and was named the league's Player of the Week on Jan. 18 after averaging 13.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game in a road sweep at Hawai'i.
As a junior in 2019-10, Moore was named to the Western Athletic Conference All-Defensive Team after finishing among the Top 10 in the league in blocks and steals and leading the team with 11.5 points per game.
A native of Southaven, Miss., Moore was named Most Valuable Player of two All-Star Games in high school. As a freshman at CSUB, he was part of the team that reached the school's first NIT and became the first No. 8 seed in NIT history to reach the tournament semifinals.
Moore suffered a season-ending leg injury late in his freshman season in 2016-17 and sat out the entire 2017-18 campaign as a medical redshirt.

Moore joins UConn transfer forward Josh Carlton, Texas Tech transfer guard Kyler Edwards, Shadow Creek High School guard Ramon Walker, Monteverde (Fla.) Academy forward Ja'Vier Francis and Wasatch Academy (Utah) guard Robbie Armbrester in the Cougars' newcomer class for the 2021-22 season.
The three high school stars signed National Letters of Intent in November 2020. Edwards and Carlton signed with the Cougars earlier this week.
