Cougars add Junior College All-American to roster for 2021
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Women's Basketball team adds to its arsenal with the addition of junior college transfer, Tamara Nard.
"Tamara Nard is a dynamic, athletic, big guard," said Head Coach Ronald Hughey. "She played in a similar system to ours in high school and her style of play is going to transfer really well. Tamara is long and athletic, similar to Bria Patterson. She can slash, get to the basket with both hands and is improving on her three-point shot. She is good young woman and culture kid."
Nard spent the last two seasons at Butler County Community College in Butler, Kansas where she played for the ninth-ranked Grizzlies. Nard appeared in 32 games her freshman season, making 29 starts. She led the team in scoring with 16.2 points per game in addition to 6.5 rebounds per game. At the conclusion of her freshman season, the Chicago native earned KJCCC Freshman of the Year honors and earned NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American honors. Before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Nard was selected for the 2020 NJCAA Coaches Association All-Star team.
During the 2020-21 season, Nard helped Butler compile a 20-3 overall record, including an 18-2 mark in league play. Most recently. the Grizzlies have qualified for the 2021 NJCAA Women's Basketball Tournament and won their third-straight KJCCC East title. Nard put up strong numbers during her sophomore campaign earning Co-Most Valuable Player honors along with being selected to the All-KJCC First Team. She averaged nearly a double-double for the second straight year with 12.8 points per game this season on 48 percent shooting from the field. Nard maintained a strong presence in the paint with 7.7 rebounds per game and 32 blocks on the season.
Nard joins a talented signing class including LSU transfer Tiara Young, Purdue graduate transfer Fatou Diagne, Old Dominion transfer Ash'a Thompson, and Kendall Brown.
