4/14/2021 3:47:00 PM | Men's Basketball
Will join Cougars after playing first three seasons at Texas Tech

Edwards selected Houston over Texas and LSU after competing for his first three years at Texas Tech. He will have two years of eligibility remaining with the Cougars with the start of the 2021-22 season.
"We liked Kyler coming out of high school. He comes from a winning, well-coached program. Two years ago, when Texas Tech went to the Final Four and National Championship Game, you could tell the impact Kyler had on that team," Sampson said. "He can score, he can shoot and he can defend, and he does all of those things at a high level. Kyler is an outstanding college guard. His greatest strength is he has no weaknesses."
As a junior at Texas Tech during the 2020-21 season, Edwards averaged 10.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.1 steals and a team-leading 2.8 assists per game.
The Arlington, Texas, native scored a season-high 20 points in a home win over TCU and added 19-point efforts against Abilene Christian and Iowa State.
Edwards made at least one 3-pointer in all but two games with eight games with 3+ treys.
He was named All-Big 12 Honorable Mention and was recognized on the 2021 Academic All-Big 12 First Team for his impressive work in the classroom.
In 2019-20, Edwards started all 31 games for the Red Raiders and averaged 11.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. He scored 12 points in the NCAA National Championship Game against Virginia as a freshman in 2018-19 and played in all 38 games as a reserve.

Edwards averaged 16.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game as a starter at Findlay Prep in Nevada for Coach Rodney Haddix. Prior to Findlay, he played for James Bowie High School in Arlington, Texas, where he compiled 22.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game on the way to being named District 4-6A Offensive Player of the Year as a junior.
Edwards joins Shadow Creek High School guard Ramon Walker, Monteverde (Fla.) Academy forward Ja'Vier Francis and Wasatch Academy (Utah) guard Robbie Armbrester in the Cougars' newcomer class for the 2021-22 season.
The three high school stars signed National Letters of Intent in November 2020.
