Cougars welcome No. 19 Longhorns for three-game set
HOUSTON – Houston Baseball welcomes No. 19 Texas for a three-game series from Don Sanders Field at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park beginning Friday at 6:30 p.m. Saturday's middle game is set for 2 p.m. and Sunday's finale starts at 1:30 p.m.

All three contests will be broadcast on ESPN+. The streaming platform is available for $5.99 per month or $59.99 annually and can be streamed with the ESPN app on Apple, Android, and Amazon Fire devices, Roku and Samsung Smart TV among other devices. Fans can also listen in to the call via Stretch Live.

Due to COVID-19 protocols outlined by Houston Athletics, attendance for the 2021 season will be pass-list only and limited to the student-athletes and coaches of the home and visiting teams. These protocols are subject to change and Houston Athletics will continue to monitor the need for adjustments to the attendance policy.

Houston (6-2) and Texas (5-4) meet for the 130th time in the history of the programs Friday. The series began in 1958. The Longhorns lead the all-time series 95-32-2.

This weekend marks the first time Texas has visited Houston for a three-game series since April 6-7, 1996. Houston defeated Texas, 4-3 in the last meeting at home (then, Cougar Field), coming on March 19, 2013.

Texas head coach David Pierce ('88) and assistant coach Sean Allen ('01) are University of Houston graduates, former student-athletes and former Cougar coaches. Pierce, a two-year UH letterwinner (1984-85), also served as Houston's hitting coach from 2001-02. Allen, a four-year letterwinner (1998-01) at Houston, was a student assistant at UH in 2002 before transitioning to assistant coach from 2003-06.

Houston is off to its best start (6-2) since 2017. The Cougars are looking to get back on track after falling 2-0 to Lamar on Wednesday. The Cougars were limited to just five hits. Houston pitching held Lamar off the scoreboard for the first seven innings before the Cardinals broke through for a pair of runs in the eighth.

Houston opens a four-game road trip Wednesday at Incarnate Word. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The matchup marks the third Southland Conference opponent the Cougars have faced (A&M-Corpus Christi and Lamar) and sixth overall contest against the league.
