TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Houston Men's Golf program was tied for 10th at -1 late in the Second Round of the N.I.T., before play was suspended due to darkness at Omni Tucson National Resort on Saturday evening.
The Cougars posted a team score of 7-under 281 in the morning and had all but one player finish the afternoon session before play was halted on the 7,167-yard, par-72 course.
No. 8 Oklahoma State held the team lead at -29 to finish the first day three shots ahead of No. 2 Oklahoma. No, 37 New Mexico (-23), No. 4 Illinois (-22), No. 17 Arizona (-21), No. 6 Texas (-17), No. 41 San Diego State (-16), USC (-5), Utah (-4) and Iowa State (-1) completed the Top-10 leaders.
Illinois' Adrien Dumont de Chassart held the individual lead at -11 with New Mexico's Brandon Shong in second at -10. New Mexico's Sam Choi, Arizona's Brad Reeves, Oklahoma's Garett Reband and Oklahoma State's Austin Eckroat were tied for third at -9.
Senior Alexander Frances fired a 69 in the morning round and was tied for 27th at -2 to lead the Cougars. After making a bogey with eight pars on his front nine, the Stege, Denmark, native drained four birdies on his back nine.
Freshman Austyn Reily also shot a 69 in the First Round and was tied for 38th at -1. The Pottsboro, Texas, native started the tournament with three birdies in his first four holes and added an eagle on the par-5 eighth hole.
Senior Matt Cole posted a 71 in the morning and was tied for 57th at +1. Seniors Luke Long and Logan Young were tied for 74th at +3.
Teams will finish the Second Round on Sunday morning before beginning the Final Round.

UP NEXT
Following the N.I.T., the Cougars will open the month of April when they play host to the Bayou City Collegiate Classic at Westwood Golf Club in Houston on April 5-6.
From there, the team closes the regular season at the Aggie Invitational at Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas on April 9-11.
