Grimes Receives AP All-America, USBWA All-District Honors

Junior guard earns All-America Third-Team honors; Named to USBWA All-District VII Team
HOUSTON – University of Houston Men's Basketball junior guard Quentin Grimes to earn postseason awards on Tuesday with All-America recognition from the Associated Press and All-District accolades from the United States Basketball Writers Association.
Grimes earned his second All-America award during the postseason with a Third-Team designation from the AP and was Houston's lone representative on the 10-man USBWA All-District VII squad. He previously received Third-Team honors from Sporting News.
The Woodlands, Texas, native has led the Cougars to a 24-3 record, 14-3 mark in American Athletic Conference play and The American Tournament title. The Cougars have been ranked in both national polls for every week during the 2020-21 season and spent 12 weeks in the Top 10, including at No. 6 in both polls this week.
ABOUT QUENTIN GRIMES
In 2020-21, Grimes leads the Cougars and ranks third in the American Athletic Conference with 18.0 points per game and stands eighth in the league with 6.0 rebounds per contest.
Grimes averaged 19.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals over three games to help lead the Cougars to the American Athletic Conference Tournament championship, the first conference tournament title for Houston since 2010.
Named The American Player of the Year following the regular season, Grimes became only the fourth Cougar in school history to sweep regular-season Conference Player of the and Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors in the same season, He joined center Hakeem Olajuwon (1984 Southwest Conference), guard Michael Young (1983 SWC) and guard Rob Williams (1981 SWC).
Grimes has posted 11 20-point games this season, including a season-, career- and Fertitta Center-record 33 points in a win over WKU on Feb. 25.
Grimes has grabbed at least seven rebounds in 13 games and finished with 10 boards against Alcorn State, to go with his 27 points, for the first double-double of his career.

Grimes was joined on the Third Team by Davion Mitchell (Baylor), Herbert Jones (Alabama), Cameron Krutwig (Loyola Chicago) and Chris Duarte (Oregon).
Luka Garza (Iowa), Jared Butler (Baylor), Ayo Dosunmu (Illinois), Cade Cunningham (Oklahoma State) and Corey Kispert were named to the First Team.
Gonzaga teammates Drew Timme and Jalen Suggs and Evan Mobley (USC), Hunter Dickinson (Michigan) and Kofi Cockburn (Ilinois) were named to the Second Team.
USBWA ALL-DISTRICT VII
Grimes was joined on the All-District VII team by Jared Butler (Baylor), Kendric Davis (SMU), Jhivann Jackson (UTSA), Andrew Jones (Texas), Mac McClung (Texas Tech), Davion Mitchell (Baylor), Moses Moody (Arkansas), MaCio Teague (Baylor) and Cameron Thomas (LSU).
Butler was named the District's Player of the Year, while Baylor's Scott Drew was named Coach of the Year.
Voting was done by the national membership of 900-plus. District VII consists of all NCAA Division I schools in the states of Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana.

Grime and the Cougars open play in the NCAA Tournament First Round when they face No. 15 seed Cleveland State at 6:15 p.m. (CDT), Friday, inside Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Ind.
This marks the third straight NCAA Tournament appearance for the Cougars.
