Houston Places Three on NABC All-District 24 Teams

HOUSTON – University of Houston Men's Basketball stars Quentin Grimes, Marcus Sasser and Justin Gorham were named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District 24 Team on Tuesday.
Grimes and Sasser earned First-Team recognition, while Gorham received Second-Team honors.
All three players have been leaders for the Cougars, who have posted a 24-3 overall record with a 14-3 mark in American Athletic Conference play and recently captured The American Championship title.
Houston has risen as high as No. 5 in both national polls, the Cougars' highest ranking since the 1983-84 season, and has spent 11 weeks among the Top 10.
Voting was done by NABC-member head coaches in NCAA Division I.

ABOUT QUENTIN GRIMES
In 2020-21, Grimes leads the Cougars and ranks third in the American Athletic Conference with 18.0 points per game and stands eighth in the league with 6.0 rebounds per contest.
Grimes averaged 19.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals over three games to help lead the Cougars to the American Athletic Conference Tournament championship, the first conference tournament title for Houston since 2010.
Named The American Player of the Year following the regular season, Grimes became only the fourth Cougar in school history to sweep regular-season Conference Player of the and Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors in the same season, He joined center Hakeem Olajuwon (1984 Southwest Conference), guard Michael Young (1983 SWC) and guard Rob Williams (1981 SWC).
Grimes has posted 11 20-point games this season, including a season-, career- and Fertitta Center-record 33 points in a win over WKU on Feb. 25.
Grimes has grabbed at least seven rebounds in 13 games and finished with 10 boards against Alcorn State, to go with his 27 points, for the first double-double of his career.

ABOUT MARCUS SASSER
Sasser ranks second among the Cougars and stands ninth with 13.7 points per game. Houston is the only American team with two of the league's Top-10 scoring leaders.
Sasser ranks third in the league with 2.6 3-pointers per game and reeled off 15 consecutive games with at least one trey earlier this season.
The Red Oak, Texas, native posted career highs with 28 points and eight 3-pointers in Houston's win over Tulane inside the Fertitta Center on Jan. 9 and dished out a career-high seven assists in both meetings against USF this season to help the Cougars sweep the Bulls.
He was named to the All-American Athletic Second Team following the regular season.

ABOUT JUSTIN GORHAM
Gorham has established himself as one of the nation's elite rebounders. The Columbia, Md., native leads the Cougars and The American with 9.0 rebounds per contest.
He leads the Cougars with seven double-doubles this season, including 10 points and 12 rebounds in Houston's thrilling 67-64 win over Memphis in the regular-season finale inside the Fertitta Center March 7.
Gorham has posted 12 games with double-digit rebounds, including nine straight games from Jan. 3 to Feb. 10, becoming the first Cougar to assemble a streak that long since Houston legend Hakeem Olajuwon enjoyed a 15-game streak from 1982-83 (last three games) to 1983-84 (first 12 games).
He leads The American and ranks fifth nationally with 4.0 offensive rebounds per game and, with 5.0 defensive boards per contest, is the only player to rank among the league's Top-Four leaders in both categories.
Gorham earned Second-Team honors from the American Athletic Conference office and was selected as the league's Most Improved Player.
Grimes and Sasser were joined on the First Team by Tyson Etienne (Wichita State), Jayden Gardner (ECU) and Kendric Davis (SMU). Gorham was joined on the Second Team by Brandon Rachal (Tulsa), Landers Nolley II (Memphis), Keith Williams (Cincinnati), Jaylen Forbes (Tulane).
Wichita State's Isaac Brown was named the District's Coach of the Year.
