
Houston Tees Off in Clover Cup this Weekend

20th-ranked Cougars ready for three-day, 54-hole tournament to be held at Longbow Golf Club
MESA, Ariz. – The University of Houston Women's Golf program returns to action when it tees off at the Clover Cup this weekend, beginning Friday morning at Longbow Golf Club.
Standing at No. 20 in the latest Golfstat national rankings, the Cougars will compete in the first of three tournaments in March on the 6,184-yard, par-72 course.
A year ago, the Cougars were preparing for their practice round for the Clover Cup when the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the remainder of the 2020 spring season.

THE LINEUP
Under the direction of Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell, sophomore Karen Fredgaard, junior Annie Kim, freshman Anne Normann, senior Ariana Saenz and freshman Delaney Martin will compete for the Cougars.
Fredgaard has been a steady performer for the Cougars throughout the 2021 spring season, In two tournaments, the Asserbo, Denmark, native has posted six rounds of par or better while earning a pair of Top-2 finishes.
She captured the first title of her collegiate career with a score of 7-under 209 at the UCF Challenge on Jan. 31-Feb. 2 and finished second at the Cougars' ICON Invitational on Feb. 22-23, at Golf Club of Houston.
With an impressive start to her season, Fredgaard ranks second nationally in the Golfstat individual rankings and is third in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.
Martin stands second on the team with a 72.83 scoring average and will be competing for the first time in her career in the team lineup after a pair of individual appearances.
Kim ranks third among the Cougars with a 73.50 average and is tied with Martin and freshman Zoe Slaughter for second on the team with three rounds of par or better.
THE FIELD
The Cougars will compete against Arizona, Cincinnati, Clemson, Colorado, Colorado State, FIU, Grand Canyon, Oklahoma, TCU, UNLV and host Arizona State.
PAIRINGS
The Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from UNLV and Grand Canyon, beginning at 9 a.m. (CST) Friday.
Martin will start the day for the Cougars at 9 a.m. (CST) off No. 10 with Saenz (9:09 a.m.), Normann (9:18 a.m.), Kim (9:27) and Fredgaard (9:36 a.m.) following.

LAST TIME OUT
Houston enters this weekend's event following a seventh-place finish at its own ICON Invitational on Feb. 22-23 at Golf Club of Houston.
Fredgaard fired three straight rounds in the 60s, including a career-low-tying 67 in the First Round, to tie for second at 11-under 205.
UP NEXT
Following the Clover Cup, the Cougars continue their trip to the West when they compete at the MountainView Collegiate at The Preserve in Saddlebrooke, Ariz. Hosted by Missouri and Kansas State, the three-day, 54-hole event will be held March 19-21.
From there, Houston returns to action when it tees off in the Bruzzy Challenge at Lantana Golf Club in Dallas on March 28-29.
