Cougar freshman set to compete in 60-meter
HOUSTON – University of Houston freshman Phatutshedzo "Shaun" Maswanganyi will represent the Cougars at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. at the Randal Tyson Center.
Maswanganyi will compete in the 60-meter with the prelims set to begin on Friday at 2:45 p.m. This is a closed meet and fans will not be in attendance. Fans are encouraged to watch all the meet action on ESPN3 which can be accessed by clicking HERE.
The South African sprinter is set to run in the first heat and enters the meet with the sixth-fastest time in the field.
The highly touted freshman made the most of a shortened indoor campaign and looks to cap off his first collegiate indoor season with a strong performance at the Championships. Maswanganyi won the 60-meter four times this season, posting the fourth-fastest time in Houston program history after clocking a time of 6.58 inside Yeoman Fieldhouse. The time is the 14th-fastest time in the world this year and the second fastest time ran by a South African.
This marks the sixth straight season that the Cougars have had an individual qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in the 60-meter.
