Grimes Named The American Player of the Week

Junior guard averaged 27.5 points per game in home win over WKU and USF
HOUSTON – University of Houston junior guard Quentin Grimes was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season on Monday afternoon.
In two home wins over WKU and USF last week, Grimes averaged 27.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game as the Cougars moved to 20-3 overall and 13-3 in American Athletic Conference play. This was his second weekly award from the league this season.
The Woodlands, Texas native scored a Fertitta Center-record and career-high 33 points, thanks to a personal-best eight 3-pointers, in Houston's 81-57 win over WKU on Thursday.
Grimes scored 18 consecutive points for the Cougars in the first half as Houston built a 39-38 halftime lead. He went on to add six rebounds with two steals and an assist against the Hilltoppers.
In the Cougars' return to American Athletic Conference play, he posted 22 points – all in the first half – including 16 straight points midway through the opening period.
Grimes finished with two steals, a rebound and assist as the Cougars swept the regular-season series against the Bulls and won 20+ games for the sixth straight season, a first in school history.
Grimes leads the Cougars and ranks second in The American with 17.7 points per game. With his 6.1 rebounding average, he is one of only three players to rank among the league's Top-Eight leaders in both scoring and rebounding.
He was named one of five national finalists for the Jerry West Award, presented by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame to the nation's top collegiate shooting guard, and has been named to the Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Midseason Team for Player of the Year, John R. Wooden Award presented by Wendy's Late-Season Top 20 Watch List and the Lute Olson Award Mid-Season Watch List.
Memphis center Moussa Cisse was named The American Freshman of the Week.
Cincinnati guard Jeremiah Davenport, Memphis guard Boogie Ellis, Temple guard Khalif Battle, Tulane guard Jaylen Forbes and Tulsa guard Elijah Joiner were named to the league's Honor Roll.
