Four singles matches go to three sets
HOUSTON – In what turned out to be a tight battle between two squads, the University of Tennis team ultimately fell to Texas Tech on Sunday by a score of 4-0.
Â
The Cougars move to 4-2 on the year, as play was suspended after the Lady Raiders (3-2) sealed the win with their singles victory on court one.
Â
After sophomore Azul Pedemonti and freshman Gabriela Giraldo dropped their doubles match, senior Phonexay Chitdara and junior Sophie Gerits found themselves fighting to keep their contest close, but dropped the match, 7-5, as Texas Tech took the doubles point.
Â
Singles action saw nearly every match go down to the wire, with four of the six contests going to three sets. After the Cougars dropped two singles contests, senior Mimi Kendall-Woseley battled her way through to keep Houston alive.
Â
Despite dropping the first set, 6-4, Kendall-Woseley fought back to win the second set, 6-4. The deficit would prove to be too much to overcome, though, falling in the third, 6-0, as Texas Tech sealed the 4-0 dual victory.
Â
Up next, Houston will continue its homestand when the Cougars host Prairie View A&M for a doubleheader on Saturday. That match is slated to begin at 10 a.m. Fans will be able to follow the match in variety of outlets, including live stats and Twitter.
Â
Those wishing to attend in person will be required to wear a mask or face covering at all times and remain socially distant from other spectators as outlined by CDC guidelines.
