HUMBLE, Texas – University of Houston sophomore Karen Fredgaard fired her third straight round in the 60s to finish second at the ICON Invitational with a score of 11-under 205 on Tuesday afternoon.
Competing on the 6,247-yard, par-72 course at Golf Club of Houston, Fredgaard drained six birdies on the way to her second straight 69.
Starting the Final Round off No. 4, Fredgaard suffered a bogey on No. 6 but quickly recovered with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 7-8. Following four straight pars, the Asserbo, Denmark, native made consecutive birdies again on Nos. 13-14 and added two birdies in a 3-hole stretch on No. 17 and No. 1.
It was her second straight Top-2 individual finish to open the spring season. Fredgaard won the first title of her collegiate career at the UCF Challenge in Orlando on Jan. 31-Feb. 2.
Oklahoma State's Rina Tatematsu won tournament's individual championship at 14-under 202 after shooting 66 for the second straight round.
As a team, the Cougars posted a score of 295 in Tuesday's Final Round and finished seventh with a 54-hole total of 867. Baylor captured the team title with a score of 840 to finish five shots ahead of LSU. Oklahoma State finished third at 854 with TCU (861) and Northwestern (864) rounding out the Top-5 leaders.
Competing as an individual, freshman Delaney Martin enjoyed a 1-under 71 Tuesday and tied for 32nd at 219. Junior Maria Jose Martinez tied for 36th at 220, while senior Ariana Saenz tied for 40th at 221. Freshman Anne Normann and junior Annie Kim tied for 44th at 222.
Freshman Zoe Slaughter tied for 58th at 227.
UP NEXT
Following the ICON Invitational, the Cougars will tee off at the Clover Cup at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz., on March 13-15.
From there, Houston will compete at the MountainView Collegiate at The Preserve in Saddlebrooke, Ariz. Hosted by Missouri and Kansas State, the three-day, 54-hole event will be held March 19-21.
