Tennis Prepares for Schedule Changes

Houston hosts North Texas on Thursday
HOUSTON -- The Houston tennis team has released an updated 2021 schedule, head coach Helena Besovic announced Wednesday.Â
First up, the Cougars will welcome North Texas to Houston this Thursday at 9:00 a.m. in a rescheduled match after the two opponents were initially set to face each other on Feb. 21.Â
The next rescheduled match will come the afternoon of March 3 against Lamar at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility. The Cougars were previously scheduled to take on the Cardinals on Feb. 5.Â
In a new scheduling, the Cougars will travel to face Southeastern Louisiana on March 20 in New Orleans. The squad will have competed in the same city against AAC foe Tulane the prior day.  Â
Houston will also face McNeese State on March 17 at 2 p.m. in Lake Charles, La. The two teams faced off earlier in this season on Jan. 17 where the Cougars earned a 7-0 sweep.Â
Previewing North Texas
The first impact of the schedule change comes on Thursday against the Mean Green of North Texas. Due to schedule changes, the Cougars haven't taken the courts since February 14, 2021, against Utah. Â
These two programs have met seven times in the past 18 years with Houston taking victories in five of those face-offs. The Cougars won the last meeting on March 3, 2018, in their visit to Denton, Texas as well as the very first match-up on April 14, 2002, at home in Houston.Â
Cougars Besovic will be facing the Mean Green for the first time since joining the university in July 2018. Â
The Mean Green enter the week 1-3 this season with their lone victory coming against Sam Houston on January 31, 2021. Â
