
Houston Ready to Host ICON Invitational

Two-day, 54-hole tournament begins Monday morning at Golf Club of Houston
HUMBLE, Texas – The University of Houston Women's Golf program returns to action when it plays host to the ICON Invitational, beginning Monday morning at Golf Club of Houston.
The two-day tournament will be played with 36 holes beginning at 8 a.m., Monday, with the Final Round teeing off Tuesday morning.

THE FIELD
The Cougars will compete against an elite field, which features Baylor, Kent State, LSU, Michigan, North Texas, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, Purdue, SMU, TCU Texas, Texas A&M, Texas State and Texas Tech.
THE LINEUP
Under the direction of Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell, sophomore Karen Fredgaard, junior Annie Kim, freshman Anne Normann, senior Ariana Saenz and freshman Zoe Slaughter will compete for the Cougars.
Junior Maria Jose Martinez and freshman Delaney Martin will compete as individuals.
Fredgaard leads the Cougars with a 69.67 scoring average. In Houston's season-opening event, the Asserbo, Denmark, native posted three straight rounds of par or better including a 67 in the Second Round, to capture the individual title at the UCF Challenge.
It was the first title of Fredgaard's collegiate career and catapulted her to No. 4 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin individual national rankings.
Martin stands second on the team with a 72.67 scoring average. The Boerne, Texas, native competed as an individual at the Texas State Invitational at Plum Creek Golf Course on Feb. 8-9 and tied for seventh with a score of 218 in her collegiate debut.
Kim is third among the Cougars with a 73.00 scoring average after opening the UCF Challenge at 70-69.
PAIRINGS
Kim will start the day in the first group off No. 1 with Fredgaard (second group off No. 1), Normann (No. 2), Saenz (No. 3) and Slaughter (second group off No. ) following.
Martinez begins in the first group off No. 18 with Martin following in the second group off that hole.

UP NEXT
Following the ICON Invitational, the Cougars will tee off at the Clover Cup at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz., on March 13-15.
From there, Houston will compete at the MountainView Collegiate at The Preserve in Saddlebrooke, Ariz. Hosted by Missouri and Kansas State, the three-day, 54-hole event will be held March 19-21.
