Cougars Sweep Doubleheader Action

HOUSTON -- Houston Baseball closed Saturday's doubleheader against Texas Southern with a 10-4 win from Don Sanders Field at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park.
The Cougars (2-0) took both matchups from Texas Southern, outlasting the Tigers 6-1 in the opener. Houston also improved its all-time series record against Texas Southern (0-2) to 31-0. The Cougars will eye the sweep on Sunday with first pitch set for 2 p.m.
After a three-run first inning by Texas Southern, Houston closed its deficit to a pair on an RBI-double from Steven Rivas to plate Brandon Uhse. Singles from Tyler Bielamowicz and Dylan Post plated Rivas and Ryan Hernandez as Houston trimmed TSU's advantage to 4-3.
After Houston Matt Lazzaro struck out the side in the sixth, Brad Burckel tied the game up, racing home from second base on a wild pitch and throwing error. Hernandez put the Cougars ahead for good, drilling a two-run home run over the left field wall for a 6-4 lead.
The Cougars added four more in the seventh and tallied 16 hits in the finale.

HOUSTON NOTES:
Offense:
- Hernandez forth a 4-for-4 showing, scoring two runs and increasing his home run season tally to two alongside two RBIs.
- Rivas scored three runs and added an RBI, finishing 2-for-3 at the plate.
- Bielamowicz recorded three RBIs, finishing 2-for-3.
- Burckel finished 2-for-4, recording two runs and two RBI.
Pitching:
- Andy Belcik (1-0) made his Houston debut and picked up his first win. Belcik recorded one strikeout and allowed no hits or runs.
- Lazzaro also made his Houston debut, recording two strikeouts without allowing a hit or run in the sixth inning.
- Also making his debut, Layne Looney recorded six strikeouts and did not permit a hit in three innings of work.
