Hudson Named Conference Pitcher of the Week

Freshman threw program’s 20th no-hitter
HOUSTON – University of Houston freshman pitcher Hailey Hudson was named The American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

The weekly honor marks the first of her career and first for Houston this season, as she becomes the first Cougar to win Pitcher of the Week since Savannah Heebner on April. 16, 2018.

In her collegiate debut, Hudson tossed the program's 20th no-hitter, and was nearly perfect in the process. The College Station, Texas, native threw all five innings in the win over Texas Southern, having surrendered just one walk, while striking out four batters. She retired eight of the final nine batters she faced.

Joining Hudson earning conference weekly accolades was sophomore infielder Britaney Shaw, who was named to The American Weekly Honor Roll. In her three games played, Shaw led the Cougars was a scorching .714 batting average, having posted an on-base percentage of .800 as well. She collected a hit in all three contests, including a career-high three hits in the second matchup with Lamar.

Houston welcomes perennial national powerhouse Oklahoma to Cougar Softball Stadium for a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 20. Game one of the doubleheader is slated for 11:30 a.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
