Anenih, Williams to take part in East-West Shrine Bowl
HOUSTON – Houston Football cornerback Damarion Williams and defensive lineman David Anenih have accepted invitations to participate in the 2022 East-West Shrine Bowl, the longest running college all-star football game in the nation, set for Feb. 3, 2022, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Â
The 2022 East-West Shrine Bowl will be part of NFL Pro Bowl week in Las Vegas. The event, which will be televised on NFL Network, brings approximately 125 of the nation's top college seniors for a week of NFL coaching preparation in front of hundreds of NFL scouts, agents and media.
Â
Williams ranks second on Houston's team with 57 tackles alongside eight pass breakups, three tackles for loss and one interception.  Anenih, a force on the defensive front, has registered 10 quarterback hurries, 8.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, two breakups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
Â
The Cougar duo helped Houston's defense turn in a record-setting year. The Cougars' unit leads the nation in third down conversion % defense (.256), ranks fifth in team sacks (3.38), sixth in total defense (297.2), seventh in first downs defense (195), 11th in red zone defense (.733), 12th in rushing defense (105.7) and 14th in turnovers gained (23).
Â
Throughout the 97-year history of the East-West Shrine Bowl, the legendary game has produced more than 500 NFL Pro Bowl appearances. The 2022 game will mark the first time that the two events align during the same week.
Â
Some of the many legendary names in past games include Tom Brady, Gale Sayers, John Elway, Lawrence Taylor, Pat Tillman, Brett Favre, Dick Butkus, Mike Ditka, Frank Gifford and Roger Staubach.
Â
The East-West Shrine Bowl benefits Shriners Children's and its mission to provide excellent care for children with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate, regardless of the families' ability to pay.
