
Men's Basketball Meets Louisiana on Tuesday

Cougars tip off vs. Ragin Cajuns at 7 p.m. Tuesday, inside Fertitta Center
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Men's Basketball program continues its non-conference schedule when it plays host to Louisiana at 7 p.m., Tuesday inside the Fertitta Center.
Ranked #14/13 for the second straight week, the Cougars enter Tuesday's game following a tough 83-82 loss at #9/9 Alabama on Saturday night. In a game that went back and forth with 15 lead changes and 11 ties and neither team building more than an 8-point lead, the Crimson Tide came out on top with a close call on the game's final play.
Junior guard Marcus Sasser led all players with 25 points and added four 3-pointers to lead the Cougars. With his scoring total, the Dallas native moved into third in the American Athletic Conference with 18.4 points per game.
Sophomore forward J'Wan Roberts was a rebounding force for the Cougars, leading all players with 13 rebounds, including nine offensive boards, or five more than Alabama's team. The St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, native moved into a tie for the league lead with 8.1 rebounds per game and leads the conference and ranks 19th nationally with 3.4 offensive boards per contest.
Since joining the starting lineup on Nov. 24, sophomore point guard Jamal Shead has averaged 7.8 points and 2.2 rebounds per game while dishing out 32 assists with only six assists. Before his turnover at the 11:44 mark of the second half at #9/9 Alabama on Saturday, Shead had not turned the ball over since 1:52 remained in the win over Northwestern State on Nov. 30, a span of 110:08 team minutes.
Under Head Coach Kelvin Sampson's leadership, the Cougars have won 22 consecutive games following a regular-season loss and done so handily, winning by an average of 20.5 points per game. The Cougars have not lost back-to-back regular-season games since Jan. 14-21, 2017 (at UCF, Memphis, at rv/rv SMU).
Tuesday's game is the Cougars' penultimate non-conference home game of the season. Following Louisiana, Houston meets Oklahoma State at 6 p.m., Saturday, inside Dickies Arena in the Hoop Hype XL | College Basketball Showcase before facing Texas State at 7 p.m., Dec. 22, inside the Fertitta Center.
