Men’s Basketball Inks Emanuel Sharp to National Letter of Intent

No. 60 (ESPN100) guard will compete as freshmen with Cougars in 2022-23

Measuring 6-foot-4 and weighing 200 pounds, Sharp will compete as a freshman beginning in 2022-23 and have four years of eligibility remaining. He will join the Cougars at the semester break in December and sit out the Spring 2022 semester as a redshirt.
The Tampa, Fla., native was listed as a 4-star recruit by ESPN, 247Sports and Rivals and was the No. 60 player nationally in the ESPN100. He ranked as the No. 11 shooting guard by ESPN, No. 18 by 247Sports and at No. 20 by Rivals
Sharp, who played for his father, Head Coach Derrick Sharp, at McLaughlin Catholic School, was recruited by Texas Tech, Arizona, Clemson, Florida, Louisville, Rutgers, Clemson, Penn State, SMU, Iona and South Florida.
"I am really excited about Emanuel. Emanuel just has a knack for putting the biscuit in the basket. He can really score, but Emanuel is really good out of pick and rolls because he can pass. He has a lot of winner to him. He is going to be a terrific college player," Sampson said. "What he can do with the basketball in scoring, you cannot teach. We like to recruit as many good offensive players as we can and then teach them how to play in our culture and our system defensively."
As a junior in 2020-21, Sharp was named the Florida Class 3A Player of the Year after leading the Hurricanes to their first state championship game appearance, where he scored 33 points, including 16 of his team's final 19.
He averaged 31.9 points per game to rank among the nation's Top-20 leaders and was named the Florida Class 5A State Player of the Year at Blake High School as a sophomore following the 2019-20 season.
"Emanuel has a winning attitude and confidence. He is just tough and competitive, and those are some of his advantages as a player," Derrick Sharp said. "Away from the court, he is pretty laid back. He has a small circle of friends and is very loyal to them."
