The Cougars have been ranked in the AP poll for 27 consecutive weeks, the third-longest streak in school history. The Cougars entered the AP poll on Jan. 20, 2020, and have been ranked every week since that time, including all 17 weeks in 2020-21.
Houston opens its 2021-22 regular season when it faces Hofstra for the first time in school history at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 9, inside the Fertitta Center.
MONTANA TECH TIES
Montana Tech will always have a special connection to Houston Head Coach Kelvin Sampson and his family. After serving as an assistant coach with the Orediggers during the 1980-81 season, Sampson became head coach in 1981.
He led Montana Tech to three consecutive 22-win seasons and a pair of Frontier Conference Championships in his final three years in Butte, Mont. He also twice was named the league's Coach of the Year.
For his impressive accomplishments and his later generosity to the program, the Orediggers play their home games on Kelvin Sampson Court inside the HPER Complex today.
