HOUSTON – Houston Soccer celebrates accomplishment of assistant coach Chelsey Patterson who was named to the 2021-22 Class of 30 Under 30 Program, announced United Soccer Coaches on Friday.
Patterson is one of 30 coaches chosen from a pool of nearly 300 applicants including coaches from youth through college levels.
The 30 Under 30 Program is a year-long program designed to recognize up-and-coming members of the coaching profession who are 30 years of age or younger. The program began in 2013 and has since given participants exposure to educational opportunities and mentorship.
"It's an incredible honor for Chelsey to be selected to the 30 under 30 program," stated Head Coach Diego Bocanegra. "I've had the privilege of watching her grow as a player and now as a young coach. She has always had a natural instinct for leadership and displays this in the standards she sets for herself and the people around her. I think this opportunity will only accelerate her growth as a mentor and coach."
In her second season with the Cougars, Patterson has been an integral part of assisting with practices, matches, and administrative duties. Before being hired by Houston, she served as a graduate assistant coach at the University of La Verne for three years.
As a player, Patterson had much success at the University of California State Fullerton where she was a member of the women's soccer program which won a Big West Regular Season Championship, Big West Championship, and received a bid to compete in the NCAA tournament. In 2018, she joined the LA Galaxy Orange County women's team which won the United Women's Soccer Championship.
The accomplishment is a huge honor for Patterson and the entire University of Houston Soccer program.
