Houston Tennis Completes Successful Weekend at TCU

Giraldo wins consolation at ITA Division I Women’s Texas Regional Championship Tournament
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Tennis program competed in the ITA Division I Women's Texas Regional Championship Tournament in Fort Worth Thursday through Sunday.

The Cougars saw success at TCU with Gabriela Giraldo winning the consolation in singles play against University of Texas' Bella Zamarripa. Giraldo defeated six opponents throughout the weekend earning her tournament victory on Sunday. The Bogotá, Colombia native recently won an ITA Fall Circuit tournament in September.

Maria Dzemeshkevich also made a strong run for herself in singles play before being defeated by Zamparria in the quarter final round of competition.

In addition to Houston's success in singles competition, the teams of Blanca Cortijo Parreno / Elena Trencheva and Dzemeshkevich / Azul Pedemonti fought for a quarter finals slot before falling in R16.

UP NEXT
The Cougars will compete at Rice on Oct. 29-31. Times for the tournament are to be announced.
