Houston men finish atop team standings with 190 points
HOUSTON - The University of Houston Men's Track & Field team won four events en route to first-place finish in the team standings at the second installment of the H-Town SpeedCity Series.
Houston finished with 190 points, leading second-place finisher Cincinnati by 60 points.
Miles Marhofer opened the day with a second-place finish in the Weight Throw. Marhofer's best toss came on his third attempt when he earned a mark of 19.97m (65.06.25).
The Shot Put was highlighted by a pair of podium finishes, as Triston Gibbons shattered the meet record with a throw of 18.73m (61-05.50). The mark is the 12th-best among collegians this season. He was followed by Mustafa Fall who finished in third-place at 15.73m (51-07.25).
The Cougar sprints did not disappoint as six of the eight finals qualifiers were Houston Cougars. Shaun Maswanganyi led all competitors matching the third-fastest time among collegians this season and the ninth-fastest time in the world this season to win the 60-meter with a time of 6.64. Houston secured five of the top spots in the event with Christian Hamberlin taking second-place (6.69) and Nicholas Alexander in third-place (6.70).
Devin Fahey paced UH in the Mile with a second-place finish a personal-best time of 4:19.03. He was trailed by Gabriel Armijo in third-place at 4:27.36.
In the 400-meter, Tyrell Valentine finished atop the standings with a time of 48.35. The 800-meter was highlighted by a third-place finish from Trey Grant. The freshman clocked a time of 1:59.50.
Seven of the eight top spots in the 200-meters were secured by the Cougars. Maswanganyi led the Cougars with the 16th-fastest time among collegians this season at 21.10 for second-place. Hamberlin took third-place (21.28), followed by Alexander in fourth-place (21.35).
In the 4x400-Meter Relay, Valentine, Dylan Brown, DJ Akindele, and Hamberlin combined for winning time of 3:14.08 in the 4x400-meter Relay. The squad holds the fastest time in The American this season.
Christyan Sampy continues to have a stellar season, finishing second in the pole vault. Sampy shattered his previous personal-best in the event, clearing a lifetime best 5.25m (17-02.75).
Over at the Triple Jump, Jadon Brome put up strong marks, ultimately finishing second in the event with a leap of 15.85 (52-00). The jump leads The American and is a personal-best for Brome. Caleb Malbrough clinched a fourth-place finish with a jump of 15.27m (50-01.25), also a personal-best.

Due to limited seating and capacity related to COVID-19 precautions, Houston will not allow fans for the 2021 Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field season.
