HOUSTON – Houston Football will be represented by a trio of Cougars in Saturday's Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.
Wide receiver Marquez Stevenson, linebacker Grant Stuard and defensive lineman Payton Turner will represent the Cougars in the postseason all-star game which showcases the nation's top NFL Draft prospects. The game kicks off at 1:30 p.m. CT and will air on the NFL Network.
The trio ups Houston's total to 38 student-athletes who have accepted invites to the Reese's Senior Bowl. The three participants match the most in school history and are the most since the 1997 contest which featured defensive back Delmonico Montgomery, running back Antowain Smith and offensive tackle Marcus Spriggs.
Houston's three participants in this year's Senior Bowl also ranks first among Texas FBS schools along with Texas A&M.
Stevenson's 22 career receiving touchdowns are tied for the sixth-most in program history. The Shreveport, La., native was named to the American Athletic Conference First Team for a second straight season in 2019, finishing with 52 receptions and nine touchdowns.
In 38 career games, Turner owns 114 tackles and 24 tackles for loss. Despite playing in five games in 2020, Turner logged a team-high 5.0 sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss. The Houston native made 11 starts in 2019 and finished with 34 tackles, 4.0 sacks and 8.0 tackles for loss. Turner was named to The American's Weekly Honor Roll during the 2020 season, providing seven tackles, including 4.5 for loss and two seasons, in Houston's 49-31 victory against Tulane.
