Cougars to play two contests in San Antonio and one in San Marcos
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Tennis program returns to action with a pair of contests in San Antonio, followed by a matchup in San Marcos, Texas, beginning Friday.
Houston begins its weekend battling Incarnate Word at 10 a.m., Friday, then stays in San Antonio to take on UTSA at 2 p.m., Saturday. The Cougars wrap up their time in Central Texas at 10 a.m., Sunday to face Texas State in San Marcos, Texas.
The Cougars have seen success in their doubles competitions, with seniors Mimi Kendall-Woseley and Phonexay Chitdara already collecting a win over a ranked opponent. Against Texas A&M the doubles pair took down No. 39 Jayci Goldsmith and Tatiana Makarova in a thrilling, 7-5, win. Together, Kendall-Woseley and Chitdara are a 2-0 on the season when paired in doubles action.
Also finding success in doubles play this season is the duo of junior Sophie Gerits and freshmen Laura Slisane. They, too, are undefeated (2-0) on the year, with both of their wins coming in the opening weekend at the TCU Tournament.
On the singles side, Chitdara and Slisane lead the Cougars with three wins each. After falling in her first two contests of the season, sophomore Menasi Reddy has bounced back and won her last two competitions.
