Third-most NFL players among Texas FBS teams
HOUSTON – With the 2020 NFL season officially underway Thursday, 15 former Houston Football student-athletes represent the Cougars on rosters or practice squads around the league.
UH's 13 former players on active NFL rosters are the fourth-most among Texas colleges. Here's the list:
Matthew Adams, LB | Indianapolis Colts

In honor of coaching legend Bill Yeoman, UH Athletics is offering a three-game "Triple Option" mini-plan package (pick any three games) beginning at $90 and a two-game "Veer" mini-plan package starting at only $65 (pick any two games).

Matthew Adams, LB | Indianapolis Colts
- The Missouri City, Texas, native enters his third season with the Colts. Adams, who has registered 33 career tackles at the next level, played in 48 games for the Cougars, logging 259 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks and five forced fumbles.
- Allen begins his season as the backup for Dwayne Haskins at quarterback. Washington traded a fifth-round pick to acquire Allen from Carolina where he threw for 3,322 yards and 17 touchdowns a season ago.
- Bowser enters his fourth season with Baltimore and is coming off his most productive season. In 2019, the outside linebacker set career highs for total tackles (23), solo stops (19) and sacks (5.0).
- Egbule heads into his second season after being selected in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Chargers. The former Houston standout logged four solo stops a season ago.
- Hayden enters his eighth NFL season and third with the Jaguars in 2020. The former No. 12 overall pick has registered 86 tackles (71 solo), three sacks, 10 passes defenses and an interception in 25 games, including 14 starts.
- A 2016 Bengals first-round draft pick, Jackson enters his third season as a full-time starting cornerback. He battled a shoulder injury in 2019, but played in 14 games and logged 37 tackles, three passes defenses and one interception.
- Johnson, who was selected by the Raiders in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, played in five games and appeared primarily on special teams in his rookie campaign.
- Jones enters his first NFL season after being selected by Arizona in the third round of the 2020 draft. In four seasons at Houston, he started all 45 games at left tackle.
- Keenum signed a three-year deal with Cleveland in March and enters his eighth season. The NCAA's career passing yards record holder has thrown for 14,368 career yards and 75 touchdowns in the NFL.
- Arizona signed Leone to its practice squad earlier this week, making his return to the Cardinals where he spent the 2017 preseason. He played the past two seasons with the Ottawa Redblacks of the CFL and was an all-star in 2019 after leading the East division with a 48.4-yard punting average (132 punts for 5,179 yards).
- Oliver enters his second season with Buffalo after being drafted by the team ninth overall. The former three-time All-American piled up 43 tackles, five tackles for loss and five sacks during the 2019 regular season. He joined Darryl Talley has the only rookies in Buffalo franchise history with sacks in three straight games.
- Oliver was a PFWA All-Rookie Team selection in 2019.
- Roberts heads into his fifth NFL season and first with Miami after the two-time Super Bowl champion signed a one-year contract in March. He owns 194 career tackles, 107 solo stops, six passes defenses and four sacks.
- Roberts was named a team captain by the Dolphins prior to the Week 1.
- Thurman was signed by New England to its practice squad. At Houston, he appeared in 44 career games with 19 starts at defensive end and totaled 92 tackles, 41Ž2 sacks and two fumble recoveries.
- A season ago with the Eagles, Ward went from the practice squad to a leading receiver down the stretch. Ward finished 2019 with 28 catches for 254 yards and a game-winning touchdown against Washington.
- Despite appearing on the Eagles practice squad to begin the last three seasons, Ward was an easy lock for the Eagles' 53-man roster.
- Cincinnati resigned Wilson to a one-year contract in April. He has played in 36 career games (two starts), and last season led the NFL with 31.3-yard kickoff return average on 20 returns, including a 92-yarder for a touchdown in Game 6 at Baltimore.
