Cougars face Crimson Tide on Dec. 19 in Tuscaloosa; Alabama visits Fertitta Center in 2020-21
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Men's Basketball program will face Alabama in a home-and-away series beginning in 2020-21, Head Coach Kelvin Sampson announced Wednesday.
The Cougars will face the Crimson Tide on Dec. 19 inside Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, Ala., for the 2020-21 season. Alabama will make its first trip to Houston to compete in the Fertitta Center during the 2021-22 campaign.
Houston returns four starters and seven letterwinners from the 2019-20 team, which captured the American Athletic Conference regular-season title for the second straight season and ranked among the Top 25 in both final national polls for the third consecutive year.
The Cougars were poised to compete in the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season before the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic forced the cancellation of the postseason.

SERIES HISTORY
The 2020-21 showdown will be Houston's first meeting against Alabama since the 1979-80 season with the Cougars owning a 3-1 lead.
It also will be the first time the two teams have played at a non-neutral site. The series opened with a 76-68 Houston win in the Sugar Bowl Classic in New Orleans on Dec. 28, 1956. The two teams met again at that tournament on Dec. 29, 1974, with the Crimson Tide taking a 105-88 victory.
The Cougars claimed an 82-76 in the NIT Semifinals inside Madison Square Garden in New York on March 17, 1977. In the most recent meeting, Houston enjoyed an 83-75 victory in the Sun Carnival Tournament in El Paso, Texas, on Dec. 29, 1979.
2020-21 SCHEDULE
This is the latest addition to the Cougars' 2020-21 schedule.
Houston also will compete at the Charleston Classic on Nov. 19-22 inside TD Arena in Charleston, S.C. The Cougars will join an elite field, which includes Florida State, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Seton Hall, Tennessee, VCU and host College of Charleston.
