A reflection from senior catcher Brianna Burton
HOUSTON – With the 2020 season being cut short due to the COVID-19 outbreak, senior catcher Brianna Burton took some time to reflect on what she misses most about the season and having her support system around her.
"I miss my friends the most. The greatest memory I have taken away from Houston is the friends I have made. The Cougars ended the 2020 campaign 16-7, which included the program's first 11-game winning streak since 2011. Houston also finished the year as one of the most explosive teams in the country, ranking fifth with 38 home runs.
"I miss traveling with the team. We always had a great time traveling to different states and staying at different hotels. I'm glad we had the opportunity to go to Las Vegas before the season ended. The memories we made on that trip are ones I'll never forget.
"I miss having the structure in my life that allowed me to get things done and stay in shape. I'm proud that I got to play softball and I got to participate in something that I love.
"I miss our pregame dances in the locker room! We always came up with dances and made everyone do funny things to make us all laugh before we went out and played.
"Most importantly, I miss seeing my parents, my sisters and my grandparents in the stands cheering me on. They are the greatest support system. They gave me everything to make sure I accomplished what I set out to achieve, and that was to play Division I softball and earn a degree. I owe everything to them for sacrificing so much of their life to let me play softball."
