Nate Hinton Named to NABC All-District 24 First Team

Sophomore guard collects latest postseason honor for Cougars.
HOUSTON – University of Houston sophomore guard Nate Hinton was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches District 24 First Team on Monday morning.
Before the cancellation of the remainder of the 2019-20 due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) crisis, Hinton led the Cougars to a 23-8 overall record, a 13-5 mark in American Athletic Conference play and the program's second straight regular-season title.
Hinton, who was started every game in 2019-20, was a leader for Houston since the start of summer practices. The Gastonia, N.C. native finished third on the team with 10.6 points per game and led the Cougars and ranked fifth in the league with 8.7 rebounds per game.
Hinton led Houston and finished fourth in the league with eight double-doubles in 2019-20 and scored a career-high 25 points in a win over UT Arlington in the Fertitta Center in December. He was one of only four players to rank among the Top-5 leaders in both offensive and defensive rebounding and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds in a win over UCF in Houston on Jan. 3.

A five-time member of the league's Weekly Honor Roll, Hinton was named to the league's All-Freshman squad in 2018-19.

This was the latest postseason honor for the Cougars following the 2019-20 season. Hinton and redshirt freshman guard Caleb Mills were named to the All-American Athletic Conference Second Team. Mills also joined guard Marcus Sasser on the leagues All-Freshmen Team
Hinton was joined on the First Team by Jarron Cumberland (Cincinnati), Precious Achiuwa (Memphis), Jayden Gardner (ECU) and Quinton Rose (Temple). Kendric Davis (SMU), Jaime Echenique (Wichita State), Martins Igbanu (Tulsa), Tre Scott (Cincinnati) and Christian Vital (UConn) were named to the Second Team.
Tulsa's Frank Haith was named the District Coach of the Year.
Voting was done by member coaches of the NABC in NCAA Division I.
