Houston Concludes NCAA Zone D Diving Championships

Three Cougars make finals appearances in Dallas
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving program concluded the 2020 NCAA Zone D Diving Championships at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium on the campus of SMU.

Lauren Burrell concluded the week with a 26th-place finish in the 1-Meter, racking up 239.65 points. In the 3-Meter, Burrell advanced to the final where she finished 18th-overall with 536.95 points. The senior's best dive in the event came on her third attempt of the day when she earned a score of 53.20 after completing a Back 2 ½ Somersault Tuck.

Chase Farris competed in both the 3-Meter and the Platform, finishing 37th-overall in the 3-Meter with 235.85 points. Farris advanced to the final of the Platform where she racked up a total score of 463.10, her best dive coming on her 10th attempt when she performed a Forward 2 ½ Somersault 1 Twist Pike.

Katie Deininger came up just short of a spot at the NCAA Championships in the Platform, finishing 10th-overall in the event with 486.00 points. Deininger notched a score of 63.80 on her second attempt after performing a Back 2 ½ Somersault Pike. In the 3-Meter, Deininger finished 35th with 241.25 points.

Jolie Blodgett closed out the weekend with a score of 220.15 in the 1-Meter, finishing in 36th-place.

The Cougars will now look to the NCAA Championships where seven student-athletes are set to compete from March 18-21 in Athens, Ga.
