Nate Hinton and Caleb Mills named to Second Team; Mills joins Marcus Sasser on All-Freshman Team
HOUSTON – University of Houston guards Nate Hinton, Caleb Mills and Marcus Sasser received postseason awards from the American Athletic Conference, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.

NATE HINTON
Hinton, who is one of only two Cougars to start every game this season, has been a leader for Houston since the start of summer practices. The Gastonia, N.C. native ranks third on the team with 10.6 points per game and leads the Cougars and ranks fifth in the league with 8.7 rebounds per game.
Hinton leads the team and ranks fourth in the league with eight double-doubles in 2019-20 and scored a career-high 25 points in a win over UT Arlington in the Fertitta Center in December. He is one of only four players to rank among the Top-5 leaders in both offensive and defensive rebounding and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds in a win over UCF in Houston on Jan. 3.
Hinton set a Fertitta Center record with 15 rebounds in the Cougars' 78-63 win over UCF on Jan. 3
A five-time member of the league's Weekly Honor Roll this season, Hinton was named to the league's All-Freshman Team in 2018-19.
CALEB MILLS
Mills is enjoying one of the finest freshman seasons in school history. After sitting out the spring semester a year ago as a redshirt, he leads the Cougars with 13.2 points per game and is poised to become only the second freshman in school history to lead the team in scoring for a season.
Mills became the first Houston freshman to earn All-Conference First- or Second-Team honors since Clyde Drexler was named to the 1981 All-Southwest Conference Second Team.
He was a two-time American Freshman of the Week honoree and a two-time member of the leagues Weekly Honor Roll. The Arden, N.C. native set a career high and tied the Fertitta Center record with 27 points in a win over rv/– Tulsa on Feb. 19 and led the Cougars with eight 20-point games in 2019-20.
With 409 points, he is tied with Danuel House for fourth in Houston freshman single-season history and needs only 48 more points to set a school freshman single-season record in that category.

MARCUS SASSER
Sasser has competed in all but one game this season and broke into the starting lineup during the second half of the year. With 57 3-pointers, he leads the Cougars and ranks among The American leaders with 1.9 3-pointers made per game.
The Red Oak, Texas, native ranks second in Houston freshman single-season history with his 3-point total and set a career-high with 26 points at SMU in February, becoming the fourth Cougar to score 20 points in a game this season.
Cincinnati guard Jarron Cumberland, Cincinnati forward Trevon Scott, UConn guard Christian Vital, Memphis forward Precious Achiuwa and Tulsa forward Martins Igbanu were named to the First Team.
Hinton and Mills were joined on the Second Team by ECU forward Jayden Gardner, Temple guard Quinton Rose and Wichita State center Jaime Echenique.
UConn guard James Bouknight, SMU guard Kendric Davis, SMU guard Tyson Jolly, SMU forward Isiaha Mike and Tulsa guard Brandon Rachal were named to the Third Team.
